Former Church of San Nicola - Blera (VT)

It is located along Via Roma, in the heart of the town of Blera, according to a credible tradition it is of very ancient origins and was initially dedicated to San Senzia, one of the two patrons of the city.
It already existed in the 9th century, because Pope Leo IV gave the church a quilted robe embroidered in gold, with the effigy of the Savior, having three emerald gems, San Senzia and San Vivenzio on the head, and also three equally quilted veils. and embroidered in gold, as deduced from the Liber Pontificalis.
It contained the mortal remains of the two patron saints of Blera, as evidenced by the Statute of Blera of 1550, which begins as follows: "In Dei nomine ... et sanctorum S. Vincentii et Sensiae, quorum corpora in ecclesia Sancii Nicolai servantur" (Nel name of Dìo ... and of the saints San Vivenzio and San Sensia, the bodies of which are preserved in the church of San Nicola).
Over the centuries, the church underwent numerous transformations and was enriched with precious works of art, then declined and was abandoned, until in the years following 1950, when it was transformed into a cinema, the altars were demolished and the surviving frescoes were dull. The restorations carried out from the late 80s and early 90s of the last century brought to light the pictorial decorations dating back to between the 14th and 16th centuries and restored to the church its dignified 16th-century appearance.
It is now used as a multipurpose room.
