Church of San Fortunato - Poggioprimocaso - Cascia

The old Church of San Fortunato is located outside the town of Poggioprimocaso, in the Municipality of Cascia, along the road to Ponte, on the slopes of Monte Maggio.
Former parish church and former prior, it was built on a Benedictine monastic cell from the 12th century, together with the convent of which various elements remain today. Peter IV, abbot of Sassovivo di Foligno annexed it to the Abbey in 1121. The apse, the single lancet window and the semi-columns are preserved on the outside of the original Romanesque character. The gabled façade with double sloping has been entirely remodeled by the seventeenth-century renovation, the original one probably had a small rose window in the center. The current one, equipped with robust buttresses, has two portals, one of which dated 1619, surmounted by two rectangular windows and separated from each other by a mighty pillar. The double arched bell gable is placed at the rear, on the left. Next to it, on the right, there was a small cloister to shelter the settlers from bad weather.
The interior was enlarged, probably in the fifteenth century, with the addition of a second nave to cope with the demographic increase, it is composed of two unequal naves covered by pointed cross vaults, supported by two central pillars.

Hello Silvio,
This is another ancient village church that at a quick glance could be taken for a barn. But I like the simple style which is not without some elegant details, and the photo is well taken from a nice and informative angle.

Very interesting composition, with this simple stone church, if it weren't for its belfry with no bells, it could almost be mistaken for an old rural house.
Its long history is very interesting.
A fantastic photo, with beautiful natural colors, very good lighting and excellent sharpness.

It is hard to tell whether the church is still in use but it certainly is an interesting looking old one. Good sharpness and detail.

Very charming chapel, I like the bell tower so nice on a side. I suppose it may have been in the middle before the church was enlarged as your note says.
Great capture with the panoramic view opening in the distance.
