Photographer's Note

A view of some of the structures on the Palatine Hill, one of the seven hills of ancient Rome. It stands about 130 feet above the Roman Forum, and according to legend was where Rome was initially founded. When exactly the first settlements were established is somewhat disputed but archaeologists have found prehistoric remains, indicating that it was probably inhabited long before Rome's first "king" allegedly founded the city. The remins of sumptuous palaces of the wealthy are also found here. The Palatine Hill been inhabited by many famous Romans, from emperors to popes: these include Augustus, Tiberius and many others. There are few remains left of the original homes but modern reconstructions ot other structures have been built, which are open to visitors.
