Photographer's Note

Detail of a stone sarcophagus, now on display at the National Archaeological Museum in Naples. These are extraordinary; they are richly decorated, as you can see, in incredibly detailed relief sculptures. There aren't many that survive from the Roman world, but the few that do provide many rich visual details about ancient Rome. I'll have to do a bit more research to find out exactly which one this was and where it was from...

Well, try as I may I can't seem to find out any information about this one: where it was from, in terms of where it was discovered, when and where it was made, or even what century it dates to. I'll keep looking around but I will probably have to spend some time in the library. I will, because this will bug me to no end not being able to find out about it, but it may be a while. I posted a workshop which shows a more wide view, so if anyone has any information I would love to hear it! Thanks much!
