Photographer's Note

The WWF lists this river as the Panda Bear of rivers; saying, "The Tagliamento River in Italy offers the rare opportunity to investigate natural processes at a scale that can be studied nowhere else in Europe. This remarkable river corridor exemplifies the ecological processes and patterns that must have characterised Alpine gravel bed rivers." It is the only undammed river in the Alps. It originates in Mauria Pass, Friuli, Italy and its mouth is in the Adriatic Sea between Trieste and Venice.

Is that an electrical wire on the left wall? Interesting short tunnel through the rock. You used it very well to frame the river in the distance. I think this is a lovely place. The road seem narrow but I bit the views are splendid. Very well done Pat :-)

A good POV to show the river through this arch and road view! Exposure is well managed and colors look quite natural. Good sharpness of details too

Hi Pat,
That looks special. Narrow road going through the edge of the rock face. And the river bed and sand banks showing through. How on earth did you fit the dark rocks in shadow and light sand on sunshine to fit within dynamic range of the camera? On such cases I've only got bad over AND underexposes.

Olá Pat, this framing is absolutely fantastic. The big rock cliff is impressive and makes a great impact, filling the foreground, but seeing the bright winding river through this 'window', pushes us through the tunnel in a marvellous trip, as if I was in a rolling coaster of an amusement Park. Love it.

A tunnel with a view ... that would be the right title, Pat. I love the background a lot. What lovely patterns of that river. You got a huge, massive and great frame for that. I hope that you or Larry got also a more comprehensive look of the same place.

Hi Pat,
A good idea to use the tunnel excavated in the rock to create a frame to the landscape of the river that one sees across it.
It is a creative composition and with good graphical effect.
Nice contrast among the tones and textures of the rock with those of the vegetation.
It's a nice work, my friend.

Great shot fo the view through the tunnel! This shows us how rugged the terrain is, and the steps that have been taken to tame it. The lush valley and river visible through the tunnel is like a paradise waiting to be unlocked. Well done!

I adore this composition. The framing of the river by the giant rock is brilliant. I like how the rock takes up most of the frame and the river is only a small part of the photo even though it is the center of interest. The dark tunnel makes the nice blue river stand out very well. Great shot Pat.

Hi Pat,
Excellent POV let us see this unspoiled river through this narrow roadway arch. The view of the river is well placed with some dramatic bends and gravel bars with clear light and fine details.

This is really nice ... looking through the solid stone to the distant river into infinity. I love the tone of the river .. really interesting .. I love the feel of the trees growing off the rock wall.

A wonderful framing through the natural arch, as the curve of the road leads us away. Of the WSs, I like the one with the village & the other where the sunlight bathes the other bank with the crimson glow. Very good package of shots!

Hello Pat! Great idea on this one to take advantage of the tunnel opening to show us the snaking river in the distance. The vertical format works wonderfully here to accentuate the height of the rocks the opening was blasted through. Very good sharpness!

Hi Pat,
I am sure that with your keen eye for composition that you spotted this photographic layout right away. The river being framed by the tunnel is wonderful and I am also glad that you included some sky on the right also. This makes the composition even more interesting. It is also interesting that this is the only undammed river in the Alps. Another one of Colorado's few undammed rivers, The Cach La Poudre, is becoming
threatened again with reservoir development. It is a constant fight to thwart these short-sighted and greedy developers. Excellent shot and some excellent notes!
