Photographer's Note

Late May afternoon I was informed about availability of a cheap promotional Ryanair flights to Scotland.
I immediately sat down to my PC to book it as I was always eager to wander in Scottish mountains and see the "Scottish highlander" cow.

Unfortunately the promotion has finished and there were no more cheap tickets in this direction.

I aimlessly booked absolutely free tickets to Weeze airport in Germany.

Then as the departure date was getting closer and closer I realized for 10 year there has been one more unfulfilled wish in my mind.

To go for "Wadlopen".

My first meeting with it took a place in the early 90'ies during my hitchhiking trip in the north of Holland.

It was a remote little village called Piterburen.
I sat enjoying the quietness and chilly breeze of Nord Zee when suddenly I saw a group of ~10 people entering the beach, changing dresses....and heading straight into the see at its low tide, plodding in the mud and soon disappearing behind the horizon.

I was a bit shocked.

I was explained it was activity called WADLOPEN ("mud walking")& they must have had an experienced guide among themselves who lead them to the island of Schiermonnikoog.

Unfortunately the activity of "wadlopen" was far too expensive for a pocket of an east-European hitcher.

Soooo.. there you are..

You land in Germany, hitchhike to the north, you do enjoy the Wadlopen then go to the Texel island to bike around it and the good God of travelers puts the lovely Scottish beauty right in front of you.

That is what I call a "reward just for being" :-)

AFAIK the Texel island is the only place out of Scotland where this animal lives on freedom in a protected area.
