Slalom

The social importance of art is very divers. Beauty and splendour are often the first mentioned qualities of art. But comforting, nostalgia, melancholy, imagery, criticizing, reflection or even provoking are also important function of art.

What is an artwork?
I think all over there are three possibilities.
◙ A network of so called art-experts, rich collectors, museum curators and art-benefactors determine what is art. The price of the artwork is decisive.
◙ The public opinion. Sometimes following the judgement of the experts, but nowadays also often following the emotions on social media. 😊 😉 ☹ 😐
◙ Your own opinion. At the end you decide yourself if you consider something to be art for you. You may let effect it by the experts or the public opinion, but also by your personal feelings. It is even possible you are the only one considering something to be art.

After the colourful and outspoken painting “Quack, Quack, Trump” I present you another very colourful artwork.
I took the pictures of “SLALOM” at the exhibition “Stage of Being” in museum Voorlinden in Wassenaar. You may categorize this three-dimensional artwork just for its beauty of colours, lines and shapes, but maybe also as a reflection of our complicated world. It is up to you.

The title of the artwork is: “SLALOM” and was made in 2011 by the Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos.

I add the dark frame to the picture to give the posts a screen format of 1920x1080 pixels
The idea is that, if you use the links in the text, you have a full screen image of the picture with the photo in the centre of a dark screen.
This works with the browsers and screens I use, but I’m not sure that everybody will have the same result.
