Inside the Wall

In the last series of the fascinating work of art by Song Dong "Through the Wall", we observe the effect of the hundreds of lamps in the space that is reflecting on all sides and fragmented by the frames of the many windows and doors inside the wall.

”For me when I was very young, art was very important; I loved art. But during that time, only sculpture and painting was considered art. I learned oil painting at university, but I also liked doing different things. So when China opened we saw a lot more different kind of art works which got me interested. I saw that art can use any material, and there were so many ways to do it. So I started doing installations and performance works from the early "90s ... .." (interview with Song Dong with OCULA MAGAZINE)

The Voorlinden Museum opened its doors to the public on 10 September 2016 and has made in short time a reputation as a leading, accessible museum of modern and contemporary art.
Voorlinden wants to be a museum for everyone:
"You don't have to be an art connoisseur, be an art viewer".
This vision of art is clearly reflected in the permanent collection and exhibition policy.

Hi Rob,how big and how rich is this artwork! Wonderful puzzle made by a lot of lamps,all colorful and all differents like the windows of the last pics. I thought to a Christmas pic before to open the miniature...ehehe...great capture to create the best effect,not the best quality in the pic watching the floor. Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

Hello Rob,
I think many persons still feel a contempt for installations and refuse to admit them as "real art". The photos you have shown from inside and outside this wall should make them change their minds. To experience it on location should be totally exhilarating, and it has been almost as fascinating to watch your photos. What more is needed on a visit to a museum or gallery?

Hi Rob,

Nice repetition of the lamps each with its own individual style and colours. Reminds me of a Chinese lantern shop in Suzhou! A fine upward pov with excellent sharpness and a good exposure despite the tricky lighting. It would have been easy to underexpose this and miss all the shadow detail captured here. Tfs!

Hallo Rob,
Al die kleurrijke lampen met hun warme gloed passen uitstekend bij de tijd van het jaar en de donkere dagen. Een lampenwinkel is er niks bij, vooral niet omdat die niet van de mooie spiegelende wanden erbij hebben.

what a magical place, very colorful! Really like it! It remember me a place I visit in Buenos Aires, a store of old things that have lots of lamps, but it was not allowed to take photos. But I got one /lair of treasure

verrassend hoe deze 'muur'vol hangt met kleurrijke lampen. Het zicht naar boven van binnenuit is spectaculair.

This art is exciting in its shapes and colours.
The reality, the reflections, lamps of every colour and shape, sometimes above, sometimes below, sometimes alongside; I have seen art which I could not classify as art but I like this enormously.

Hallo Rob, the artwork interior is illuminated by colored lamps. They are suspended to the ceiling. They create a nice visual effect. Fine colors, good sharpness, instructive photo note, regards.

What a great idea indeed!
The lamps make a fantastic repeated motif with the variation of shape and color.
I would love to have it in one of my rooms :)
Although with so many bulbs it may not be environmentally friendly :)

Three pictures on this subject give a magnificent set of illuminated lamps in multi-colors, Rob, I think I found all diff. colors that exist on earth...maybe black is missing...

I feel as if i'm in a large department store and i'm standing in the LIGHTING section :) Which one do i buy? haha.
The visual is 'enlightening' haha
the reflections make a strong impact too, I think without them it would just be a large grouping of lights. Sometimes its hard to get the true true feeling of the artwork in just a photo, I get the sense that's what's going on here for me personally. I'm having a hard time feeling moved by it. but you know that's me. Nothing wrong with the photo though

yes, here we can see some creativity and art. Of course if you are in a bad humor you can say this is only the ceiling of a showroom of a store of chandeliers. anyway it is a stuff that call our attention and it is very beautiful as a subject in your composition. a very beautiful job. I liked.
