The houses of Do Ho Suh
By my next visit to museum Voorlinden the impenetrable barrier wall with its infinite, boundless secret corridor inside of Song Dong was replaced for the fragile, transparent houses of Do Ho Suh
The South Korean artist Do Ho Suh does not use remnants of demolished houses, but precisely replicates fragments of the houses in which he has lived. He uses a very slim frame for this, which he covers with starched, coloured transparent cloth. The public can walk very carefully through the corridors of the interconnected houses.
Do Ho Suh is interested in how we as human beings relate to the spaces in which we live and in what it means to be "at home".
”I see life as a passage, with no fixed beginning or destination. We tend to focus on the destination all the time and forget about the In-Between spaces. ” DO HO SUH
”In times of globalization and migration, it is more important than ever to consider the significance of individual places. Suh's work stems from the need to map space and the concept of identity. He was inspired during his many migrations around the world, during which he was uprooted several times. The contrast between America and South Korea also plays a major role in his work - a contrast that Suh confronted with his own identity. After all, these places have a different approach to the personal and collective. In his work, for example, Suh places the personal opposite the universal and the physical alongside the immaterial. ” Website Museum Voorlinden

Hello Rob,
You have shown us some different, artistic angles on this colourful exhibition.
Each has its own merits showing shapes, angles and depth.
The playful interaction demonstrated by the children makes your main post just that extra bit special.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hello Rob,
This exhibition doesn't excite me quite as much as the fantastic Wall of your latest postings. But the many colourful details provide for attractive photos, and the participation of the visitors greatly animate the views. Especially these kids in the main photo were invaluable to you.
Best regards,
Gert

Hallo Rob,
De felle kleuren van deze nagemaakte huizen zijn heel aantrekkelijk en bovendien zorgen ze voor een goede kennismaking met kunst door de jongere generatie. De Londense stijl is nog goed herkenbaar.

Hi Rob,
You have captured well the actions of the visitors. The point of view is showing the details of the houses of Do Ho Suh. The light is bringing out the colours. Have a nice day.

Dag Rob,
Goed foto werk, bedankt.
Groeten uit Vlaanderen,
john

Bonjour Rob,
Il semble se passer des choses très étranges derrière ces rideaux transparents. Les jeunes prennent des poses étonnantes de curiosité. Très jolies couleurs.
Amicalement

Hello Rob, here the screen is filled with colour and the interaction of the visitors to the ‘walls’ and the various spaces.
All three shots are fascinating; seeing the different shapes and colours representing Do Ho Suh’s ideas of the fragments of his houses that he has lived in.
I can’t begin to imagine where I would start if I had to do that exercise!
Kind regards, Jean.
