Dawn Patrol

It seems the Doms threw down their swords. Well this actually was the only sensible thing to do ;-). In case they get any fancy ideas about re-engaging the still increasing ranks of fabulous Dutch windmills, this dawn patrol of gulls will deal with them swiftly before they reach these ranks. They’re normally a peaceful lot, but when provoked by roosters or other things that might be thrown at us, they will mercifully deposit their payload of lethal excrements on it/them. So beware ;-)
This is for now my final windmill war posting.

Pic taken during the same walk as this posting on the North Sea beach of Hoek of Holland.

PCS tech: cropped; contrast, levels, curves & saturation (differentially) adjusted; altered the exposure and of assorted elements; photographic warm filter; USM-ed; added a frame and saved for the web.

Hi Bert,
What a beautiful catch.
I like very much the soft colors and the harmony of the pale blue and the pale brown. The waves are a perfect BG to the wavy motion of the wings. Great shot.

Beautiful shot! The light is just perfect. Strange, we feel the movement but, at the same time, everything is stoped for that one precise moment. I really like that.

Bonjour Bert,
une super activité à cet endroit de la plage. Le cadrage serré renforce cette idée de promiscuité et de mouvement.
Excellent reèglage de l'exposition, des couleurs particulières, mais habituelles en Mer du Nord.

Hoi Bert,
Wat een drukte van de meeuwen, deze hebben er verstand van omde boel op stelten te zetten, ik vind dit wel een goede foto qua inzet en kleuren. Bert spijtig ik heb een vraag en een opmerking; heeft u deze foto gescherpt en hoeveel, de korrels in de hemel laten zoiets blijken. Uw horizont is een beetje schuin, vergeten na tezien voor de posting?
Maar toch kijk ik met plezier naar dit beeld.

Very beautiful ,Bert but I would not say its Dutch the moment I saw it
But it is very very good
I think it’s the color of the light on the birds that makes it for me
The atmosphere is calm and peaceful
But there is a lot of white which makes it very calming
Very good composition with good framing

Hi Bert. Great vivid photo of the gulls in the afternoon light, a lovely natural scene with the flock of birds above (and inside) the incoming surf. I guess mentioning that the horizon is not 100% level would go under nitpicking, so I'd rather not ;-)

The light makes this shot imo, Bert. It's beautifully subtle and enhances the almost monochrome effect. Nice timing to catch the gulls all of a flutter. I read your previous note about this walk - I always think it's nice how simple activities like this can provide some of our happiest memories.

Hi Bert, lovely, lovely capture, beautiful light! Good use of the birds for the war ;-)
It's almost unreal this one, it looks like one of those old pictures that used to hang in classrooms, made by Verkade. The moment is so nice with all those birds! I remember that afternoon, your indsutrial sunset was very nice! But it never took place in November 2005, of course ;-)

Net een schilderij dit! Prachtige romantisch en warme ambiance hier. Al die fladderende vogels zo dicht op elkaar ziet er druk uit, toch straalt de foto de rust van de natuur en de zee uit.

Super shot bert, I was down at the seaside the other morning and there was lots of birds, but I just couldnt get close enough to get the shot I wanted. It was sunrise and I wanted the birds like this in front of the water, did you have a nice long lens so you didnt have to get physically close, or were the birds just not bothered by your presence?

I like the action in the shot, its as though you shouted BOO so they woudl fly away so you coulg get your shot!

An unusual image coming from you, but nicely surprising too. Something very attractive with the lighting... it gives some warmth to the cool scene. It looks like the birds have been drawn with fine ink and filled with aquarelle.

* Only "-" point is the horizon, should have been easy to correct that before posting.
