Out of purpose?, a photo from Zuid Holland, Sud

Photographer's Note

I was a bit wondering whether or not I was in the TOS limits with his picture of a domestic animal...
;o)
Then well, I thought it's not a pet and anyway it's not mine, so it should be ok!

To be a little bit more serious, I found interesting this sculpture of a bull head integrated in the wall of an old house built of stones of the beautiful city of Delft. I don't know much more about it, but it is placed above a sheep head also sculpted in soft stone. Therefore I think this house was owned by a rich butcher or farmer of ancient Delft. I think this man should be rich because stone houses are not so numerous in Delft, and more generally in Holland, due to the lack of such material in the country...
If somebody knows much about this, he's really welcome to share his knowledge with us and correct my potential mistakes!

Puis je me suis dit que ce n'était pas un animal de compagnie et que de toutes manières ce n'était pas le mien, alors ça devrait passer !

Pour redevenir un peu plus sérieux, Mes yeux ont été tout de suite attirés par cette tête de taureau sulptée et intégrée dans le mur d'une belle maison de pierre de la ville de Delft. Je n'en sais pas beaucoup plus si ce n'est que je pense que la maison en question devait probablement appartenir à un riche boucher ou éleveur de la cité. J'imagine que l'homme en question devait être financièremen à l'aise car les maisons en pierres ne sont pas très abondantes à Delft, et de manière générale en Hollande en aison de la rareté de ce matériau sur le sol néerlandais...
Si quelqu'un en sait plus, je lui saurais gré de bien vouloir nous faire partager sa science et corriger mes probables erreurs!

marrante ton image et je ne pense pas qu'elle gene le TOS. je ne te serais d'aucune aide, tu t'en doutes sur le sujet.
un bon coup d'oeil pour cet animal de pierre qui ne m'a pas l'air completement à sa place.

Cette sculpture est intéressante et étrange à la fois ! Il est difficile de se prononcer quant à la date probable de cette sculpture (la vue partielle de la façade rend difficile la datation). Ton raisonnement relatif à l'appartenance de cette maison est tout à fait pertinent. Ce qui m'intrigue ce sont les cornes (vraies ou fausses cornes ?) ; quoi qu'il en soit, une photographie qui ne peut laisser indifférent.
Très bien observé.

Funny to watch this - becaurse I got a very similar shot from Rotterdam.
A yes - You can see something similar on Danish butcher shops - thanks for sharing this photo and fine note.

Bizarre autant qu'étrange, est ce que ce ne serait pas lié aux réminiscences de l'occupation espagnole en Flandres dans des temps anciens....

The front-on view works well with the shadows. It seems like an odd subject to have as a sculpture; you may be right about the butcher. As it is almost monochrome anyway B&W could have been an alternative option.

En apercevant cette vue, j'ai tout de suite pensé à une vue évoquant la tauromachie (j'ai vu comme beaucoup d'autres ton commentaire sur la photo de Gilbert .... alors je n'en rajouterais pas !

Boucher ou toréro, j'opte pour la seconde solution; les cornes semblent véritable.
Reste à savoir de quelle époque l'architecture, cela ma l'air assez ancien.
Bonne idée de composition.

Une belle bête qui sort du mur, c'est du relief ça !
La sculpture est bien faite et ta photo la présente au mieux. L'éclairage est au top pour donner le maximum de relief.

This is a nicely detailed capture of this interesting sculpture. I can see that the harsh light and shadow might have made controlling the light a little tricky but you've managed it well. I also think the way you've composed this pic is appropriate for this image. Well done! :-)

I think the most interesting of this compo loic is the fine play of shadows from the bulls head. Well seen and well made compo in the almost bw result.

Hi Lois,
There is a great competition of artificial cows on TE at the moment, so I don’t think there is somebody who dares to inform the TOS about these explosion of pets.
I don’t know where this is exactly in Delft. Often this stone can be found on places like previous cattle-markets of butcher’s shops.
