Photographer's Note

The Castle of Eijsden. I wanted to see it again as the border of the Netherlands is not so far from my mother's home. I already visited it some times in the past (last in February) but I always find other pov's and framings... ;-)

Another photo of this castle here.

The castle was build in 1636 for the lord of Eijsden Arnold de la Margelle. It had to be rebuild a few years later because of a fire. It is build in the Mosan (from the Meuse region) Renaissance-Style which is typical from the triangle Liege-Maastricht-Aachen (in Germany).
You can visit the gardens and the surroundings of the castle (it is free), but you can not visit the castle which is private property of the Counts de Liekekerke de Pailhe.
Eijsden is a nice little city (11,000 inhabitants) at the border Belgium-The Netherlands and the place where the river Meuse flows into the Netherlands.
