A Stormy Ålesund

The first day in Ålesund was a pretty stormy one, which at times made it quite a challenge to keep my camera still. Seen here is a view of the fjords and mountains to the south of the city. The vessel, I believe a Russian one, was docked at the harbour, close to the terminal for the Norwegian Coastal Express, Hurtigruten.

Bonjour Lars,

J'aime beaucoup cette composition.Par contre j'aurais apprécié voir le bateau dans son entier, car il lui manque le nez.Les montagnes sont magnifiques en arrière plan et j'aime bien le ciel.

Good evening lars,
Good choice made when placed the green vessel off-center, allow good view across the Fjord, snowy summits and the northern town houses along the shores.
The light came through and gave a nice color cast on the sky.

You have taken the typical cold nothern light, it is so different from the Mediterranean light, very nice photo with great depth, beautiful snowy mountains in the BG and an illuminated ship in the FG

the stormy weather is so well seen in the image with the grey sky to spread all over it.Beautiful presentation of this section of Ålesund with the boat to dominating on the right of the scene and the mountains on the backdrop of the it.

I was lucky and spend wonderful sunny days in Norway back in 2014! I loved the great weather in that city too! But I'd love to go back there in wintertime!
That's an interesting and attractive picture!

Hi Lars,

The distance between the ship and the mountains is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the ship and of the mountains. The cloudy sky does not hurt the output of the colors. Have a nice day.

A photograph taken under very difficult conditions but I like how you have set the scene with the choppy water, the cool, snow covered mountains and the cloud streaked sky.
You have certainly given us a sense of atmosphere.
It's a pity the boat has lost its prow but I think you have kept your camera remarkably steady!

The Norwegian scenery is as majestic as ever, but in this photo I am mainly impressed by the light and colours. There is a fine "interplay" between the clouds and the waves and a nice inclusion of the mainly green boat contrasting the dominance of blueish tones. You managed the weak winter light very cleverly.

i've always been a fan of these scenes in the north with very rough looking waters. its so different from the southern waters we see, and when you add in the mountains it caps it off nicely.

Noorwegen een heel mooi land, maar in de winter vermoedelijk niet te bezoeken door de koude en de sneeuw.
De boot ziet er misschien wel een beetje Russisch uit.
Uw beeld is echt mooi scherp en helder om naar te kijken.

Magnificent composition, with the sky a bit threatening, but the beauty of the mountains covered snow background, is well illustrated, the sea has a color storm and the boat is a nice complement.
Very good brightness and sharpness, with good colors.

Hello Lars,

The presence of the Russian ship makes the photo more interesting, if for no other reason than in seeing increased friendly dealings. I don't get a sense of the wind, but if you had difficulty in keeping the camera steady, I believe it, a biting wind. Speaking about winds, on our trip to Iguazu, we took a helicopter ride. I was sitting next to the window in the front right where a small window was open. The difference in pressure between the interior of the helicopter and the exterior sucked the lens cap off the camera, ripping the tether cord attaching it to the camera. The lens cap is now part of the Brazilian jungle. I held onto the camera so tightly that I was afraid it too could be sucked out.

Those distant mountains over the choppy waters look spectacular. The Russian vessel would have made an interesting photo all by itself, I like photos of vehicles.

Bonjour Lars,

I tried getting into the camp ground cabins but the owner was away and I got tired of waiting from 10 pm to 1 am so I walked to the gas station and caught a bus into town and stayed at a central hotel. The huge ship reminds me of another passenger liner docked there in 2014. Fantastic panorama of the snowcapped peaks with good sharpness and some choppy fg water. Tfs!

Lars, that place must be very windy. The snow capped mountains appear majestically in the bg. That huge ship is moored in the port maybe waiting for better weather conditions. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.
