Photographer's Note

Ålgård is a village in Rogaland in Norway with a population of about 7500. It is the administrative centre of Gjesdal municipality. From here it is possible to take the rout 45 towards Oltedal, another village in Gjesdal municipality; then on into the hinterlands of central Norway.

It is quite a popular road, particularly in the height of summer and in winter, when Norwegians travel to their 'hytter' (cabins) in the more mountainous regions of Rogaland and Vest-Agder, either for a quiet summer break, or skiing. The road runs alongside the beautiful ribbon lake of Edlandsvatnet, with few stopping places. The glaciated hillsides were orange because of the low sun shining on dying bracken.

To take a series of photos here, I had to walk a considerable way alongside the lake, protected only by the barriers on the road. It was one of those perfect late autumn days with no wind, an unusual occurrence; hence I have put this photo in the category of 'Decisive Moment'.
