Stockfish is unsalted fish, especially cod, dried by cold air and wind on wooden racks on the foreshore, called "hjell".

Hello Jan,

I have recently returned from Lofoten and I saw there stockfish too. Even more impressive (and smelly) was the view of drying cod's heads. Nice picture.

Hello Jan Arie,

Dat is lang geleden dat ik de gedroogde vis nog eens kon eten, man wat kon ie lekker zijn, maar achteraf dorst, niet normaal!
Op wieler wedstrijden en voetbal velden was er steeds Stockvis te koop.
Ik weet niet of deze hier nog te koop is.
Ik ben blij nog eens een foto te zien met de echte stockvis.
Mooi gedaan, bedankt.
