Photographer's Note

Stavanger is the main city in the county of Rogaland, and is the third largest city in Norway with a population of approximately 121,000. The city is commonly referred to as the Petroleum Capital of Norway, and is twinned with several cities around the world, including Aberdaeen, Houston, Esbjerg in Denamark and Eskilstuna in Sweden. The city is located on a peninsula on the southwest coast of Norway. The climate is described as maritime mild temperate and it can be rather windy, with all monthly temperature averages above freezing, although this last winter the temperatures have been lower than normal. The lowland areas in and around Stavanger have the longest growing season in Norway.

This view is looking towards the The Ryfylke, the western fjord region, which is very beautiful, with many islands, mountains and, of course, fjords; the best known one is probably Lysefjorden. The name means light fjord, and is said to be derived from the lightly coloured granite rocks along its sides.
