"Nuit" arctique, a photo from Nordland, Nord

Photographer's Note

Alors que le soleil décline mais reste toujours présent pendant ces étonnantes "nuits" arctiques, l'exceptionnelle luminosité illumine les paysages, comme ici, au Lofoten près du village de Myrland.
Une plage de sable blanc, des rochers, des eaux bleues, une prairie verte et une montagne à la forme pyramidale en toile de fond ... avec juste pour bercer ces instants de contemplation, le doux bruit régulier des vagues ... quel souvenir !

Je ne sais pas a quele heure tu l'as prise, mais on voit encore de belles couleurs bien contrastees, auxquelles tu ajoutes la touche de dynamisme avec la vague, bien execute !

Bonjour Jean,
il est vrai qu'il me tarde de visiter les pays nordiques et bien au Nord, Islande évidemment mais aussi Finlande et Norvège.
Celui qui aime la nature ne peut qu'aimer ces pays.
Un relief particulier, ces petites montagnes très pointues et un peu esseulées.
Jiolies couleurs tendres, j'aime beaucoup cette petite vague en train de se retourner.
Au fait quelle heure était-il ?

La luminosité est superbe. J'aime bien le soleil qui illumine la crête de la vague, et les couleurs vives sur les différents plans. C'est un paysage fantastique, avec la forme pointue de la falaise, cet aspect désertique, et les plages de sable.
Ca donne vraiment envie d'aller se promener par là bas.

mais c'est une photo de nuit donc ... et sans trepied !
pas trop deroutant les longues journées de 6 mois ?
le cadrage est au petits oignons, et cette lumiere tres agreable, et qui fait eclater les couleurs.

La lumiere basse donne du relif a la composition,et revele de belle couleurs,bien sur tu as declenché au bon moment sur la vague qui se casse,c'est un des avantages du reflex le declenchement quasi instantanné,bien vu,

I believe that this must be a great memory as the place is astonishing and the atmosphere inspires a great peace of mind. The combination of waves hitting gently in the rocks with a soft, warm light and the smell of the sea is probably the best atmosphere there is.

Ce doit être assez extraordinaire d'avoir ce soleil qui ne se couche pas sur l'orizon; ainsi on a toute la nuit pour faire des paysages...
La compo est bien faite et surtont cette vague qui rentre dedans sous la lumière.

La composition est excellente et le bord de la plage au premier plan mène naturellement vers la montagne.

Comment ne pas tomber en admiration devant cette image ? Premièrement, le paysage est superbe et le cliché, magnifiquement composé avec son avant plan généreux. La lumière est très douce et les textures du sable et des rochers est très bien rendue. Les reliefs de l'arrière plan sont époustouflants. Magnifique !

What a beautiful picture. The angle of the sun casting shadows on the rock is great. The waves are frozen well. Only thing I don't like is the poles in the background.

I spent a couple of months in Tromso during the summer of 96, but unfortunately it was cloudy every day. :(

Superb landscape! The low angle of the sun has lit the scene beautifully. Good exposure levels also with details in the shadows. Lovely range of colours and very good depth. What an impressive rock that is in background.

This is the second picture that I see today with the midnight light. It seems that there is something very special with such light. I believe that it must have been cold there, but the light is warm. I like the composition, well balanced.

C'est vrai que la luminosité est exceptionnelle.
Je suis surpris par la douceur climatique apparente qui ressort de cette photo même en pleine saison d'été, alors que l'on se trouve sous des latitudes très septentrionales.
Cela donne envie d'aller en Norvège.

Je ne me suis jamais vraiment arrêtée sur des photos de "nuit" polaire! On a du mal à croire que c'est une photo de "nuit". A quelle heure l'as-tu prise?
Tout est magnifique dans cette image! La composition avec ce gros rocher en second plan, le bleu de la mer et ces petites vagues qui viennent se jeter sur le beau sable blanc.

Bonjour Jean,

What a prominent focal point the rock makes. It is a bit reminiscent of the Rock of Gibraltar, but more dramatic. The wave rolling in adds a subtle buttress to the rock and is cleverly presented in a diagonal structure. This is one area of Norway I have not seen before.

I don't imagine I can say any more about your 220+ point photo. But I am so impressed with this shot that I at least want to add my "big smiley" to your well deserved collection.

You have the three elements of a great photograph all on "maximum" here. (1) An outstanding subject, full of visual interest: the sea coast and the dramatic mountain. (2) A beautifully conceived composition with the gentle sweep of the shoreline dividing the lower half of the frame and the grass, mountains, and sky given fair shares of the upper half. (3) The technical qualities of the photo are outstanding: sharpness of image throughout the frame, excellent color rendering (the northern light helped, I'm sure, but still, you deserve credit for capturing it so well).

This is a fine shot! The angled lighting is great create nice warm tones for the shot as well as good shadows in the FG. Your composition is great with the curving beach leading the eye through the shot. The breaking wave adds a nice point of interest in the foreground. The lighting and colors are great and the photo has excellent sharpness.

This is a very special coastal landscape with the surf perfectly captured just before it crashes on the sands and rocks.

Lovely ray of light catching the beach, the rocks and the far background, this is simply gorgeous. Great depth and superb clarity with excellent lead in. You have captured the movement of the wave brilliantly and well frozen and this is awesome. A very appealing beachscape from the north pole rarely seen. The Lofoten have many wonderful beaches that sometimes don´t look at all like being in the Arctic and this one is also one of them. Your framing is great, the lonely mountain in the middle adds dramatism to the whole composition.

I don't know how it is even possible that I didn't comment on your most popular photo on TrekEarth!

Beautiful natural scenery! The little beach in the foreground is so eye catching.
Sans seems smooth and rocks clean, the wave gentle and well captured. Without reading the location one could imagine it is a warm destination where you can enjoy a swim in the sea.
The shape of the mountain is unique and from this angle very well pronounced.
You had an amazing light there, the long shades are obvious. The little wave makes a diagonal opposite to the one made by the mountain.
