Photographer's Note

Peniche is a fishing town some 100 kms North of Lisbon. It seats on a small peninsula that was once an island. This is evident when we travel around because the isthmus is flat and low level and the far end of the peninsula is solid rock.

This part of the Portuguese coast has suffered the influence of huge tectonic forces, which can be seen on the twisted strata (WS1). But here in Peniche we can also see the action of the sea and the wind (WS2).

With strong legs and good shoes, you can find anything at walking distance: the fishing harbor; old architecture; high cliffs; dunes or rocky beaches. And when you get tired, or wait for the right light, dozens of restaurants will serve you some of the best fish in Portugal.

The day was cloudy and as I shot handheld without the VR switched on (dummy me), some of the pictures are blurred, but that just gives me an excuse to return…
