Miradouros de Lisboa, a photo from Lisboa, Sud

Photographer's Note

Lisbon is a city built on several hills which offer amazing views from one to another. I had to share at least one of the panoramic views over Lisbon. This was taken from the Miradouro de Santa Luzia. From this angle you can see three structures rising above the red tile roofs. In the left, with the two identical towers, the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora. Further to the right you can see a dome of the National Pantheon (Panteão Nacional), a 17th-century baroque church turned into modern-day mausoleum for tombs of national celebrities. Finally, the church on the right hand side is the Igreja de Santo Estêvão.

Miradouro de Santa Luzia is a well known and shown to tourists visiting Portugal, Mariusz.
The red roof-tiles offer wonderful sight contrasting blue sky and white houses, church and domes on the Alfama hills.
Beautiful picture that given me good memories from our trip in 10/2010.

On viewing your photograph, I immediately felt cheered, it is so colourful, and we feel to be floating above the many red-roofed buildings to reach the impressive monastery building.

An ultraclassic view, but it's not ultraclassic without reason. This is a fine capture of it with great colours and superb sharpness. Wonderful clouds up there in the sky too.

Sometimes taking the obvious shot is not a bad thing to do. Famous views are famous for a reason!

Hello Mariusz,
I think I also uploaded once a photo that I took on the terrace by the church of Santa Luzia.
The terrace offers a sublime view over the red roofs, the white church facades or domes and the extremely wide Tagus.
Splendid photo here that can convince many who were never there to go to Lisbon.
I just read Chris's comment and yes, suddenly I remember the many African sellers. I don't remember what they sold but it was seedy anyway :)

A wonderful viewpoint over the rooftops to the river. Lots of details of different buildings from small ones to the biggest one at the top. On this bright sunshine they all look pretty.

even yesterday I was watching a portuguese movie about são vicente de fora monastery, showing as it was very old, as the spanish king destroyed it to build this new version to show he was the king of portugal too. nice view.
