Photographer's Note
My previous photo presented the facade of the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos in Belem, Lisbon, one of the best examples of the Manueline architecture. This time a scene from the cloister within this monastery.
I copied below some information about the Manueline Style from Wikipedia:
The Manueline (Portuguese: estilo manuelino), occasionally known as Portuguese late Gothic, is the sumptuous, composite Portuguese architectural style originating in the 16th century, during the Portuguese Renaissance and Age of Discoveries. Manueline architecture incorporates maritime elements and representations of the discoveries brought from the voyages of Vasco da Gama and Pedro Álvares Cabral. This innovative style synthesizes aspects of Late Gothic Flamboyant architecture with original motifs and influences of the Plateresque, Mudéjar, Italian, and Flemish architecture. It marks the transition from Late Gothic to Renaissance. The construction of churches and monasteries in Manueline was largely financed by proceeds of the lucrative spice trade with Africa and India.
The style was given its name, many years later, by Francisco Adolfo de Varnhagen, Viscount of Porto Seguro, in his 1842 book Noticia historica e descriptiva do Mosteiro de Belem, com um glossario de varios termos respectivos principalmente a architectura gothica, in his description of the Jerónimos Monastery. Varnhagen named the style after King Manuel I, whose reign (1495–1521) coincided with its development. The style was much influenced by the astonishing successes of the voyages of discovery of Portuguese navigators, from the coastal areas of Africa to the discovery of Brazil and the ocean routes to the Far East, drawing heavily on the style and decorations of East Indian temples.
Although the period of this style did not last long (from 1490 to 1520), it played an important part in the development of Portuguese art. The influence of the style outlived the king. Celebrating the newly maritime power, it manifested itself in architecture (churches, monasteries, palaces, castles) and extended into other arts such as sculpture, painting, works of art made of precious metals, faience and furniture.

Good morning Mariusz,
Superbly chosen the spot to take this beautiful picture.
Light and shadows cast a great sight of the details upon the meticulously mounted pillars.
Contrast and DOF par-exzcellence.
Have a nice new day,
Ike

Hello Mariusz,
The workmanship on the pillars is of a high quality and you have clearly conveyed that information via this close-up photograph. The light and shadows give a wonderful 3D effect.
There is some excellent art, all around, if we have time and the inclination to look.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Good work both by the scuplturs and...in an entirely different dimension and scale also by you the photographer! Good capture of light and shade. Cropping out the oneon the left, this could have been made even smaller to include just three columns.

Hello Mariusz,
I really liked the Manueline style with its many rich architectural decorations often referring to the sea and the Portuguese voyages of discovery.
Here's a masterful photo to represent the style.
Wonderful with the contrast between light and shadow.
Excellent view of the decorations in detail. Good depth.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Mariusz,
Those columns have the most special carvings I have seen. And the sidelight really shows them in the best possible light. Good, tight vertical framing.

Hello Mariusz,
The stone carvings are wonderful and look really great in this bright sunlight. The contrast with the darker areas highlights the details so well. The pillars themselves are wonderful and very elegant as well.

Hello Mariusz.
This is indeed a masterful composition, one of those that I like to make, it is ideal as you can enjoy with the beautiful columns that act as mullions for the window, with different carvings, what we see on the wall is equally wonderful.
That warm tone of the stone is beautiful, both the lighting and the details of the image are at the highest level.
Great job we enjoyed.
Have a good weekend.
Very best regards.
Luis.
