Photographer's Note

Hi, my TE friends!

Flying it’s one of the most antique desires of man, and now it’s converted in a passion, by this recreational and competitive free-flying sport called Paragliding.
Paragliding it’s a “distant relative” of parachuting, and it has a story of constant equipment improvement and a growner number of paragliding pilots (also called paragliders) since 1980’s.
Some wings on this sport are very beautiful (like this one you can see on this shot), and make perfect and wonderful color contrast with the surrounding landscape.

Here, you can see my good friend Miguel, on his wonderful wing, overflying Praia das Bicas (which you can see on the background, near Aldeia do Meco), 38kms far from Lisbon and 61kms far from Sintra.
This picture it’s for him, for his courage and sports good taste!

In another future photo, I’ll bring to you some information about Praia das Bicas.
My next photos will be about this impressive sport and about Praia das Bicas and its marvellous landscapes.

The colours are very attractive in this shot, as is the light. There is a little noise, but this does not detract from a dynamic shot. Well done.

Boa noite Rosa,
Sou doido por parapente , mas não pratico.
Quando vou para esta praia odoro estar deitado a ver aquelas "aves humanas" é muito bonito.
Neste dia estive lá se calhar até passei por ti :).Viste aquele sol vermelho do pôr -do-sol?
Nota: no cabeçalho deves dizer Setubal/Sesimbra-Meco.
A final a Aldeia do meco merece ser mencionada.
Gosto muito do pov que escolheste , boas cores.

Para ser sincero, não sabia que as praias na zona do Meco eram assim, com falésias até à água. Deve ser uma área muito bonita. A tua foto está bastante interessante, com cores fortes e agradáveis. Só foi pena teres cortado a parte de cima da "vela" (não sei como se chama essa coisa em português). Também gostaria de ver uma composição vertical. Talvez ficasse bem. Em conclusão, gosto deste teu trabalho.

Un très bon timing pour saisir ce parapentise se lançant du haut d'une falaise !
Tu l'a bien cadré et les couleurs de la voile contrastent bien avec ce décor de bord de mer !

Hi Rosa,
The waves provide additional dynamism to the scene, with the great view of Miguel on his wing. The hues and tones blend so well here and lure the viewer in every respect. My only minor irritant is that Miguel is too centred and a crop would have been in order on the left. Otherwise this is great, captured at the decisive moment. Well done.

Boa foto Rosa. Eu também comecei a tirar o curso de parapente, no Guincho, mas nunca consegui acabar por incompetência do instrutor :( Esta zona da arriba é muito bonita e de vez em quando vou lá para umas caminhadas. Excelente contraste das cores do "pássaro Miguel" com a bela paisagem esfumada na neblina. A composição vertical sugerida também pelo António poderia ser interessante de facto, pelo menos em termos de enquadramento do parapente.

A fantastic warm vs cold colour opposition, between the warm red colours of the parasail, & the cool blues & cyans of the ocean. A marvellous high pov, with good shallow dof & sharpness. Tfs!

Your POV makes me think you were flying on another Paraglide when you shot the photo!
Nice picture, with those big waves in background. Just a bit more space on the upper edge would have helped...:)

Hello Rosa,

First, I love this photograph. It is an action shot, frozen in time as a still picture. The composiition, color, exposure, sharpness and the high level of contrast are very good. As for the history of paragliding and human flight, you probably know that the most famous person from the distant past who dreamt of flying was Leonardo da Vinci. He seems to have had "preternatural vision" -- being able to freeze motion in midflight. There was a famous American baseball player, Ted Williams, who had that facility. He claimed to be able to see the seams of a baseball approaching him at 160 km/hr. Leonardo illustrated a whole notebook with drawings of wings in dynamic, serial motion. You might want to tell your friend, Miguel.

Bonjour Rosa,
les couleurs sont superbes et éclatantes, on peut dire que les lumières sont aussi bien maitrisées.
Le sportif est un peu centré, mais pour nous montrer ces falaises, tu n'avais pas vraiment le choix.
On ne se rend pas bien compte de son altitude par rapport à la plage, heureusement qu'il y a ce petit personnage sur cette plage justement.
