Photographer's Note

The Pombaline Baixa is an elegant district, primarily constructed after the 1755 Lisbon earthquake. It takes its name from Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, 1st Marquess of Pombal, the Prime Minister to Joseph I of Portugal from 1750 to 1777 and key figure of the Enlightenment in Portugal, who took the lead in ordering the rebuilding of Lisbon after the 1755 earthquake. The Marquis of Pombal imposed strict conditions on rebuilding the city, and the current grid pattern strongly differs from the organic streetplan that characterised the district before the Earthquake.
The Pombaline Baixa is one of the first examples of earthquake-resistant construction. Architectural models were tested by having troops march around them to simulate an earthquake. Notable features of Pombaline structures include the 'Pombaline cage', a symmetrical wood-lattice framework aimed at distributing earthquake force, and inter-terrace walls that are built higher than roof timbers to reduce fire contagion....

J'aime bien ta manière de découper une image. Celle-ci, sombre sur la gauche et lumineuse sur la droite nous donne une bonne idée de cette rue piétonnière qui semble très populaire.

I like your idea to keep the camera close to the facade on the left.It creates nice effect and make the contrast much stronger between these two parts of the picture.The scene is perfectly composed and framed.Excellent details reproduction.Well done!

Its funny to read about the Troops jumping around to simulate an earthquake! How big are these guys? haha

When i see a tightly squeezed composition along the street, i know its you!
this is a total collage format, everything all squished together and i like it.

Aceasta este o mare de culori picture.The sunt adanci, iar detaliile sunt exprimate excelent.Claritate și lumina sunt perfect.Very bine compuse, cu culori splendide și saturație.De iluminat este, de asemenea, uimitor,

There are many elements in this shot that in themselves would make an interesting shot too, but I do like the view you have where I can just take it all in and even try to make up conversations for the people standing at the corner and those who eating.

Excellent view point for it does give the feel of depth forming a frame within a frame with the dark area making it stand out so superbly. The light is excellent filtering through highlighting the detail into the far end, and you have really brought out so much details throughout. A delightful street scene with a special charm and the reflections within gives that extra dimension. Well done and good observation, TFS.
