Photographer's Note
Also known as the Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitoria, this national monument was built by King John I as a sign of gratitude to the Virgin Mary for Portugal victory against Castile in the Battle of Aljubarrota. Classified as World Heritage by UNESCO, this unique building was erected in 1388 and is considered the epitome of Gothic architecture in the country.
