Why São Miguel is THE Green Island
All Azores islands are green, either totally or partly (exceptions include Faial's new land, created 1958, and Santa Maria lowlands half of the year).
So why is São Miguel the one called the Green Island?
There can be only one reason: the luminous green variations found only in its absolute south slopes, around Vila Franca do Campo, radiating also in winter although not as intensely as in summer.
One of its borders is once white Castelo Branco, the ghost castle. The same fate will meet, rather sooner than later, any construction beyond the ultimate border.

Interessante a neblina junto ao mar, parece-me. Há um certo mistério e misticismo nesta imagem.
Bom enquadramento, boa luz, bom contraste.

Ola Ilena!
I've always felt that different shades of green make very attractive images, and this is another proof. The photo is irritating by the diagonal coast line, suggesting that there is a heavy tilt to the left. And I wonder about your POV. Where have you been standing, or did you make use of a drone?

Hello Ilena
At first, with those rolling green hills, I thought this was shot in Ireland. A fine post to open my eyes. Thanks for posting it.
