Photographer's Note

This is Penela, a small town around 30kms south of Coimbra. What really catch our eye when we get there is the castle. It dates from the 11th century but a part of it has been built later, in the 14th and 15th centuries. It has played a very important role, once it was part of the defensive line of the Mondego River.Inside the walls we have also the Church of S. Miguel. The road passes just in front, a little below the place where I took this photo from and from there the town seems small but really beautiful
