Photographer's Note

Once considered the most beautiful art nouveau building in Romania, the Constanta Casino is today an abandoned ruin. Restaurative works have recently started-and stopped numerous times.First opened in 1880 ,the building is located right on the Black Sea coast, and at the moment it still retains enough of the splendor it had in 1910 when it was rebuilt to the plans of the French architect Daniel Renard. It had quite a history, being bombed in both world wars and subsequently used by the communists as a "culture club",at one time used as a field hospital etc. The last repairs were conducted sometimes in the late 80's and as the structure is in need of consolidation a great deal of funding is required (the original building had wooden structure and is now upgraded to a pre-stressed reinforced concrete one).rnThis picture is taken in early November from near the shipyard. The clouds and lighting are really picturesque in winter at the Black Sea- never knew it until I purchased a second hand camera in Constanta that still had some (excellent) pictures by the previous owner-the beauty of the sea in winter became an obsession of mine after seeing them.No processing other than resize and a bit of sharpening.
