Photographer's Note

Small electrical substations (voltage reducing transformers and power switching stations)in various city neighbourhoods were often covered in grafitti and looked somewhat sad. The city hall in Bucharest decided to cover them in grafitti of their own. This particular one pays hommage to a world famous Romanian conductor (NOT ELECTRIC!but symphonic..) named Sergiu Celibidache.
Technical note: D40 X is a CMOS sensor 10MPixel SLR. It was , together with its D40 6MPixel sibling ,the cheapest and smallest SLR ever and one of the first to be aimed at amateurs or beginners even.Back in 2009 it was my first real camera and it got me started in photography, and is still ok today. As a funny sidenote, original batteries still work in this camera with no discernable loss of capacity! The lens is an entirely different animal. One of the first consumer short focal lenses, the Sigma 10-20 wide zoom is some 13-14 years old today and while mechanically and optically pristine the design shows its age. It is a soft monster and the chromatic aberrations and comma is visible in the picture- I did not correct those at all. Look at the branches against the sky.. Still it has reasonable sharpness in the center and is a 10 -20 mm zoom with a constant f:3.5 aperture. No stabilization, but excellent flare and internal reflection handling especially for wide lens and especially for an old design. The Nikkor 10-2o is much better (and much lighter!) despite being darker , and has mechanical stabilization, unlike this old Sigma. But this old Sigma can be thrown on all and any Nikon from the venerable 20 year old D100 (got two, still perfect) to the latest D5XXX or 7XX/XXX.As I have a lot of older bodies (but a young mind to compensate) I prefer the Sigma, come what may . Normally a minimal Darkroom effort pays up and gets rid of any and all abberation/distortions.This one,as a quick snap only got its saturation slightly tweaked and light sharpening applied although it was not really required. Enjoy the distortion and see what a Sigma of the past can('t) do.
