Photographer's Note

This is Manastirea Dealu (Dealu Monastery), a nuns monastery situated at 6 km from Targoviste, the capital of Dambovita county. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful Romanian monasteries. It is called so because it is on a hill ("deal", in Romanian) and was built on the 15th century, during the reign of Radu the Great ('Radu cel Mare') and was repeatedly repaired during the reigns of Matei Basarab, Constantin Brancoveanu and Bibescu Voda.
Here there is the tomb of Michael the Brave (Mihai Viteazul--1558-9 August 1601), one of the most important Romanian princes, who united for the first time the three Romanian countries under a single Romanian ruler. He is regarded as one of Romania's greatest national heroes.
