Saltpans of Secovlje used to be the largest saltpans in north Adriatic sea. The biggest part of saltpans are now abandoned and are a nature preserve for the rare waterfowls. Light wind and scent of the Mediterranean, fascinate the visitors in every season of the year. In the 'Museum of saltpans', precious informations are available about the history of salt production. Tourist development of this area was begun from the saltpans. In 19th century, the wholesomeness of the mud from saltpans was discovered and tourism was started. Today, the mud from this saltpans, is one of the main touristic offers of Portorose, the biggest summer resort in whole Slovenia.
