Photographer's Note

During a visit with two friends, members of TE, Luis and David, in the mountain of the Tibidabo in Barcelona, we take some photos in spite of the clouds, the slight rain and a difficult light. In this photo I wanted to catch the spectacular image of the Expiatory Temple of the Sacred Heart, which raises itself in the top of this mountain, and its beautiful modernist architecture.

Information: The Expiatory Temple of the Sacred Heart (in Catalan, Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor), initially was a hermitage constructed by the salesians, inaugurated in 1886 during the visit of San Juan Bosco to Barcelona. The construction of the Temple, projected by Enric Sagnier i Villavecchia, began in 1902, and were finished in 1961 by his son Josep Maria Sagnier i Vidal. It is a monumental building of Neogothic style and crowned by a statue of bronze of the Sacred Heart. An elevator allows to rise to the top part of the temple, placed to 575 m. on the sea level, from where it is possible to enjoy a breathtaking sight and realize a few fantastic photos of Barcelona.

In the WORKSHOP I present the fabulous sight on the city of Barcelona that can be enjoyed from the viewing-point that I had to my back when I took the main photo. It is a panoramic composition of several photos, which I have cut for both sides, in order to adapt to the format of presentation.

Durante una visita en compañía de dos amigos fotógrafos de TE, Luis y David, a la montaña del Tibidabo en Barcelona, tomamos algunas fotos a pesar de las nubes, la ligera lluvia y una luz difícil. En esta foto quise captar la espectacular imagen del Templo Expiatorio del Sagrado Corazón, que se alza en la cima de esta montaña, y su interesante arquitectura modernista.

Información: El Templo Expiatorio del Sagrado Corazón (en catalán Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor), inicialmente era una ermita construida por los salesianos, inaugurada en 1886 durante la visita de San Juan Bosco a Barcelona.
La construcción del Templo, proyectado por Enric Sagnier i Villavecchia, se inició en 1902, y fue terminada en 1961 por su hijo Josep Maria Sagnier i Vidal. Es un edificio monumental de estilo neogótico y coronado por una estatua de bronce del Sagrado Corazón. Un ascensor permite subir a la parte superior del templo, situado a 575 m. sobre el nivel del mar, desde donde se puede disfrutar de una impresionante vista y realizar unas fantásticas fotos de Barcelona.

En el WORKSHOP presento la fabulosa vista sobre la ciudad de Barcelona que se puede disfrutar desde el mirador que tenía a mi espalda cuando tomé la foto principal. Es una composición panorámica de varias fotos, que he cortado por ambos lados para adaptarla al foormato de presentación.

Hola carinyo,
Una imagen con una nitidez fantástica que me recuerda la niñez, cuando este lugar era un premio en los estudios.
El cielo amenazando tormenta es impresionante, dando un toque de misterio a esta composición.
Me gusta el punto de vista y el encuadre cerrado, que acentúa la majestuosidad de la figura del Sagrado Corazón.
Que lindo se vé el carrusel de los caballitos en el que me encantaba subirme de pequeña.
En fin, un trabajo muy bien expuesto y realizado, como es habitual en tí.
El WS es también un buen disparo.

Hola Josep,
nice the view of this advantage POV of the upper part of the Expiatory temple of the Sacred heart,under the grey sky of the day.The Christ on the top outline perfect against the sky with the colourful foreground to adds colour in the image.
Informative the panoramic view of the town indeed as we can see it in the WS.

Red yet another book about barcelona, Josep, and Tibidabo descibed there in details, the palaces mansions and villas. To my astonishment did not find on TE many posted photos from there.
Two subjects combined, the high edifice of the temple, and the colorful carusell on the FG.
Inspite the weather, the grey sky added a nice backdrop for the scen, well done.

l'incontro del sacro e del profano: la religione e la devozione e la giostra e il relativo divertimento.
Alla grandiosità della prima che si eleva verso il cielo minaccioso si contrappone la seconda che sembra essere in attesa dei bambini per compiere i suoi giri infaticabili.
Colori cupi e adatti al soggetto che ne esaltano la maestosità anzichè essergli di ostacolo.
Composizione superba per un soggetto di grande impatto.

This is indeed a fine shot when the architectural beauty of the edifice & the stature become centre of attraction on a grey day. An effective composition with the eye grabber in the fg breaking the colour monotony so effectively, and credit to your skill in achieving a fine balance of exposure and sharpness, Congrats.

Recuerdo perfectamente el dia, frio y ventoso allá arriba y aprovechaste muy bien, a pesar de las dificultades climatológicas, para captar esta hermosa y original imagen del templo, con el carrousel a sus pies, yo tuve poco éxito con mis fotos en este lugar.... aquí ese cielo amenazador, juega muy bien con el color de la piedra del templo.
Muy buena la iluminación y el efecto de texturas y detalles obtenidos.
Como siempre impecable el marco, que le va como anillo al dedo.

Gris sobre gris da igual una interesante composicion ya que se aprecian los detalles de la arquitectura del templo en contraste con la colorida calesita del primer plano

Impresionante la vista de Barcelona en el WS, parece no tener fin

I have not seen many pictures of Expiatory Temple of the Sacred Heart & hence am glad you shared it with us. I would like to see from you a picture of this fine temple in good light under blue sky...the grey structure is getting lost in the BG of the grey clouds...The colourful FG adds to the scene
