Photographer's Note

This monument stands on the north side of the main bridge on the Arlanzón River in Burgos, it is one of several memorials of El Cid in this city. He was born near Burgos in 1049 as Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar and was raised and educated there. He become a famous military leader and diplomat, the Moors called him El Cid (The Lord), and the Christians El Campeador (Outstanding Warrior). His tomb is in the Burgos Cathedral. A close-up of the nice bronze equestrian statue on the monument is in the Workshop. A few steps away from this monument there is a full figure El Cid stone sculpture, it is one of several stone sculptures decorating the bridge. He is also commemorated on the face of the previously shown Arch of Santa Maria.
