Photographer's Note
I want to dedicate this photo to our friend Malgorzata, who visited Salamanca but did not find the Old Cathedral.
Here you can see the fantastic and peculiar dome of scales, with some Byzantine influence, and that only it is possible to see in the Cathedrals of Zamora and of Plasencia, as well as in the Collegiate church of Toro. Also the rooster is visible in the vane.
In WS a wider sight from below.
Information:
The Old Cathedral of Santa Maria, is one of two cathedrals that exists in Salamanca. Both are leaned, one next to other one. Founded by the bishop Jerónimo de Perigord, it was started constructing in the first third of the 12th century and finished at the end of the 14th century, in Romanesque and Gothic style. It finished thanks to the impulse that the bishop Alfonso Barasaque gave to the works. This one dedicated to Santa Maria de la Sede.
It is a building of basilical plant, in Latin cross and three naves, one marked cruise and head-board formed by three semicircular apses, which show a few windows with round arches on the outside. The most amazing element is the considerable dome that rises on the cruise rested on four impressive scallops; the date of construction must place concerning the year 1150. Inside it has orange shape, opened with eight clusters, and outside it has almost conical shape with an exceptional decoration of scales. It is popularly known as the "Tower of the Rooster", since this animal appears in the vane that crown it.
It was on the verge of being destroyed because on having projected the New Cathedral they thought of knocking down her, but the time that passes from the beginning of the works of the New Cathedral (concerning 1520) and the late date of conclusion (about 1733), as well as the need of a space where to celebrate the worship while the construction was finishing, does the initial decision to destroy it were rejected. In plant the left nave became narrower, and it lacks a part of the arm of the cruise, as a consequence of the construction of the New Cathedral.

Hi Josep,
you've done a marvelous presentation of this stunning cathedral, the architecture is of rare beauty. I like the way there are mainly just two colors and their shades in the image and the odd clouds add such a delicate touch to the picture. Too bad that she missed that piece of art.
Have a great weekend

Hola Josep,
The architecture of this cathedral is very impressive. I like the way the tiles lead us to the tower in the background. This kind of view reminds of when I walked on the roof of the Duomo in Milano. Wonderful colors and blue sky in this shot. I also like the WS photo.

Hi Josep
This is nice crop image in fine day and well composed, a stunning view, a clean shot with good perspective and depth. You have included most of the prominent structures so well fit the frame. The lighting is fine with excellent detail and lots of attractive interest. A contrasty image to be proud off, that works very well, colours are rich and great sharpness. Excellent notes as usual. Great photo effort, Congrats.
Best regards

Hola my friend Josep
What a wonderful view of the marvellous cathedral! You've created a fantastic perspective which leads our eyes to the turret...the spines are those which are so appealing. Thanks for the WS which gives an idea of the overall structure!
Excellent architecture shot, in fine light! I am curious as to how Malgo couldn't find this cathedral!

Hola Josep.
Luis.
