Blue Hour Beaching, a photo from Gran Canaria, Canarias

Hi Trekkers,

Roughly a year ago I spent a week in the island of Gran Canaria. That was the first time I was in Africa - although the Canary Islands politically belong to Spain and Europe, geographically the area is obviously a part of the African continent.

The capital of the island, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, has (as said) the 2nd longest urban beach on Earth, Las Canteras. Although I myself prefer less exposed sites, this beach is one of the most famous tourist attractions of the island. However, I found it more photogenic in the blue hour than at daytime.

Photo: shot from the square near the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium and Las Arenas shopping centre, in the blue hour. Handheld, ISO 80, f/8, 1/30 sec. in manual exposure mode and manual white balance. PP: slight level and color adjustment, moderate cropping, re-sharpening after re-sizing.

I agree with you and don't think that the town would be very photogenic in the day time but at blue hour with the good sunset the whole photo comes out superb!

Hello Laszio,

Your photograph has contrasts of atmosphere: calm over the town, surging movement in the f/g.
I was surprised to see people still surfing with the light fading so much.

It's a really good blue hour shot especially as it is hand held.
I think this will have far more mood that one of people sunbathing during the day!

Hi Laszlo,perhaps the show offered by this concentration of hotels and buildings is not the best, but surely the choice of the moment made the difference, a big blue hour painted in pink, the perfect display to catch the best of the show. Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

Hello Laszlo,
Magnificent blue hour picture over the bay and town beyond. The golden sky on the horizon wonderfully contrast the dark tones bellow, yet maintained a very clear sight of the houses.
