Photographer's Note

Kronetorp's Mill [Kronetorps Mölla] in the municipality of Burlöv - a suburb to Malmö - has for a long time been a hallmark when approaching the city from north. But with the new outer ringroad many miss this powerful sight.

It's one of the largest in Scania and a so-called 'Dutchman mill'. This means it has a rotational hood, which can be turned into the wind, mounted on a fixed multi-storey body. The hood with machinery weighs about 25 tons.

The wings - which are mounted on a 5,5m (16.4ft) long axle - are made of larch wood and 11,5m (36ft) long. In light wind it possible to stretch sails over the wings, giving a sail area of 100m² (1075 sq ft).

Built in 1841, the Kronetorp's Mill was in continuous use until 1961 - on Dec. 6, 1971 it was declared a site of historic interest. And in 1983 the Burlöv Mill Organization was formed, with the task of spreading more knowledge and create interest around the mill.

Additionally the mill is operated and shown to the public on Sundays during June, July and August every year.

This photo of the illuminated mill was shot at 11:15 p.m.
