Photographer's Note

The island of Riddarholmen is a part of the old city of Stockholm. This view was taken from Stadshuset (Townhall).

Weather was not optimal, it had rained a lot and the sky was very cloudy. The colours of the original photo were ugly, the sky very burnt. The only element that could be interesting was the light because a little ray of sun gave beautiful reflects on the water.
This special light made me think that something was possible with this picture but what?
I found the view and the light interesting, I just had to find the solution to make the picture "postable".
I work very hard, tried many things and improved my technique in postprocessing until I found the result you can see.

I named this picture "Second chance" to tell that "ugly" photos are not a fatality. If the result is not good when taking the picture, postprocessing is a way to better it considerably.
Purists would say that it is better to take directly a good photo. Sure.
But when you haven't got a camera that permits you complete manual adjustments, when you haven't got a tripod, when you don't have good weather conditions, when you have no knowledge of optic , it is more difficult to have a good original picture.
Postprocessing provides a "second chance"
The way is less talentuous but the result can be as much interesting.

Postprocessing: selection of the statue and the quay and sharpening.
Inverse selection and work on gamma, contrasts and levels to give a silver aspect to the sea.
Selection of the sky and played a lot with gamma, contrasts and saturation of the blues to see more the clouds.
Overall in black and white

Do you want me to post the so ugly original picture?
