Photographer's Note

A photo I had to take very quickly a few days ago when I saw the lady and the dog coming down the staircase next to the red wooden building. This was in one of the picturesque areas on the steep hillsides of Södermalm island in Stockholm. The light was difficult, and I had to do some post-processing to make a reasonable copy.

I am sure the dog saw me, but in case the lady did, she didn't seem to care.

Södermalm used to be a poor working class district, full of terrible slums, and remained one of the least developed parts of Stockholm as recently as the 1960's. During approximately the last 30 years it has been heavily gentrified and is now probably the most super chic and trendy urban area in the entire country.

Another photo from a few meters further up the street is in the WS.
