Common Goldeneye (Bucephala clangula)
A female Goldeneye with her youngsters. Next time I saw her she had lost two of them. A week after that she was alone. All of her kids where probably taken by predators. But before the poor bird accepted her loss, she searched the area for over a week. Then she gave up and left...
A sad story, but that’s just the way of nature.
Sharpened and cropped. Slightly increase of contrast, and decrease of colour balance (red) has been made.

Nice picture, just a bit grainy, but I am guessing that you took this from a distance. I love the ripples of the birds feet. The reflections are also very nice too.
It is a sad story, but as you said, it is nature.
