Towards the horizon, a photo from Gotland, Gotaland

Photographer's Note

View from the shoreline at Åminne beach near Gothemhamar as the sun sets. My intention with the photo was to show the horizon and trying to let the sky and sea almost becom inseperable. One can see a formation at the horizon where a boat has traveled.

I have increased the saturation by 10%

wow this is against every rule there is in photography... you have all the elements for the most boring shot in the world...
- no subject
- no composition
- no focal point
- the horizon in the middle
and yet the emptyness and pastel colors are spectacular!!!! i love the guts in this photograph....

The biggest strength here is the choice to allot so much more room for the water than the sky which disrupts the abstraction and brings it straight into being a fine image. I have no concept of the ettiquette in TE for expletives but f*ck all the rules of photography, Proxilva is right, it's stunning. Painters fake this sort of reality. Nice stuff. (By the way, now I know the ettiquette of TE regarding expletives because it wouldn't let me post the word I had originally chosen!)

I agree with Proxilva that this photo really works, against all odds. Maybe it's the simple tow-tone pastel wash look, but it seems so peaceful, and yes, so empty - in a good way.

I agree with proxilva, the shot is against all the "rules", could be boring, but... the soft, pastel colours and the emptyness is beautiful.

Beautiful and simple photo. I like the sharp horizon and the mild colors. It is a bit empty and I normally would think that it lacks something extra, but in this case the simplicity works.

There's nothing boring in this photo, IMHO.
In contrary, colour range and tonality is rather pleasant and interesting if not impressive!
Also, love the oilyness of the water that is well captured in this low-light dusk illumination.
