Photographer's Note
This series of photographs is offering a short journey around Switzerland, a landlocked country geographically divided between the Alps, the Swiss Plateau and the Jura, bordering with France, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein and Italy.
Switzerland (the Swiss Confederation) consists of following 20 cantons (states) and 6 half-cantons: Aargau, Appenzell Ausserhoden*, Appenzell Innerhoden*, Basel Landschaft*, Basel Stadt*, Bern, Fribourg, Geneva, Glarus, Graubünden, Jura, Lucerne, Neuchatel, Nidwalden*, Obwalden*, Schaffhausen, Schwyz, Solothurn, St. Gallen, Thurgau, Ticino, Uri, Valais, Vaud, Zug and Zurich (*=half-canton).
From each canton I’ll post 2 photos and from each half-canton 1 photo, total 46 photographs.
Appenzell Ausserhoden
Appenzell Ausserhoden is located in the north east of Switzerland, bordering the cantons of St. Gallen and Appenzell Innerrhoden. The capital city is Herisau.
I’ve taken this photo in the old town of Herisau.
Herisau was first mentioned in 837 as Herinisauva, and its church is mentioned in 907. In 1084 Herisau was destroyed as part of battles around the monastery in St. Gallen. In 1248 and 1249 the town was destroyed again, this time by the monastery to establish loyalty. In 1401 Herisau joined an alliance with other places in Appenzell as part of the Appenzell Wars.
Between 1517 and 1518 Herisau managed to buy itself free from the monastery. The town hall was built in 1601. In 1606 the town was largely destroyed by a fire. Between 1798 and 1803 Herisau was the capital of the canton Säntis.

You made me laugh today, Miro... I knew a small dog that his owner called him "Yephenzel"... now I have a grasp of the idea where this came from...
Nice street view, I like the small horse on the gutter.
Fine depth and clearity.
Regards
Ike

Hello Miro. First, I see the skillful composition. In the narrow picture frame, everything is perfectly placed. In addition, good handling of light and contrast. Well done. Rgds, Wolfgang.

Hello Miro
Despite bold shadow on street itself, light reflection from opposite buildings row shows the minute details of this curved street with subtle pastel tones for quite a sympathic alley.
Cheers.

Hi Miro,
Love the composition more than anything with this shot, the slightly elevated position really enhances the vertical effect and overall depth. Great look down one street and up another, the compressed focal range pulls this together quite nicely. Looks to have been maybe some drastic light conditions between light and shade, but you've found a good balance. Also good to have a few people included to add some motion and life. Solid shot, well done! Have a great weekend.
All the best,
Jason
