100 years and still going strong, a photo from Graubunden, Est

Photographer's Note

Special steam train of Rhätische Bahn railway through the Rheinschlucht (Rhine gorge) and upper Rhine valley. We had no hurry, and made lots of stops to meet oncoming trains and let faster ones pass us.
Our locomotive, RhB 107, was built in 1906 by Schweitzerische Lokomotiv Maschinen Fabrik (SLM) in Winterthur.

PP: USM, desaturation, framing and toning - same treatment as her sister engine received.

Lovely composition with the train. Wonderful colour tone. Lovely framing. Very shrap capture. Wonderful photo with the heritage train, came at a time when these steam engines are going to the museums as antiques.

This is a really good shot Kari. Excellent composition; you've found the perfect viewpoint to photograph this locomotive. The quality of the light is good and the man working in the foreground adds to the interest of the shot.
Its just my personal opinion but I don't really like the frame; I find it a bit gimmicky and its too obviously an attempt to give the shot a retro feel.
Other than that, very good work. Well done.

Hello, wonderful viewpoint, great depth to the shot thanks to the hills in the background, good human interest... in fact there is something interesting wherever one looks... I personally like the frame very much. It may be a cheap trick, but it works! :-)

Hi Kari - the sepia treatment is perfect for this shot. It creates an old-time atmosphere, highly appropriate in this case. Even the frame, which normally I wouldn't like, works well in this instance.

The viewpoint is good too, the long view down the length of the train, with the mountains providing a good backdrop.

This certainly looks like a period piece. I thought is was an old photo scanned in for a split second. Nice pov too, as it gives the picture great depth and perspective. Good effect from the steam and good to include the men to give some scale. Good work.

Fantastic this travel back in time. The colors, frame, the machinist makes you think the shot was taken long ago. If it was not for the guy on the background we would never know... Beautifull composition.

Excellent shot. Your composition is well chosen, with the lines of the train and the rails and overhead wires all radiating from a distant point, which ehhances the sense of depth and the length of the train. Nice treatment in toning and framing also which gives a feeling of age. having 2 or 3 people outside the train adds that extra touch also.
