Gotthardbahn (1/5)

Gotthardbahn was the fourth railway line across the Alps. It was opened in 1882 after tedious ten years of construction. So year is the 125th anniversary of the route. At the time of opening, 15km long Gotthard rail tunnel was the longest rail tunnel in the world. This shot is from the shore of Vierwaldstättersee on the flat section of the line before the line starts it's climb to the mountains.

(Gotthardbahn in Wikipedia.)

Shot from the hiking path between Sisikon and Flüelen. This path is part of Weg der Schweiz (The Swiss Path), special 35km scenic hiking path on the shores of Urnersee between Rütli and Brunnen.
This single track is on the original Gotthardbahn route. The second track which was built later is on this location inside a tunnel because there's so little room on the lakeshore.
