Photographer's Note

Preparation means a lot for travel photography.

When I searched for photos from Cambridge to pick a perfect spot for a postcard I came across pictures of the King’ College Chapel taken across the River Cam often with people enjoying punting. I thought it will be a great idea to take a blue hour photo from that POV. Well I have asked for extra time off from my family to be able to get there in time. It appears that the access to this POV is restricted, at night closed, and the building was dark anyway. I went to the town centre and waited the whole blue hour and longer but the town remained completely dark. I mean street lights were on but no historical building was lit. That evening I came back with no photos at all.

Last year I had a chance to visit Oxford and reading about the sights quickly I realized that I have to visit a church tower to see the best views. Similarly to Oxford, Cambridge has a view point on a church tower in the middle of the old town but this time I did not notice that until the weather got too bad for photos...

Two failures in one town. Fortunately in the morning before the sky turned uniformly white and featureless there was some time with clear sky which as you see I have used to take this picture of the King’s College Chapel, from the quite opposite side than I planned though.
