Photographer's Note

This was the view one morning from a campsite near Appleby. Or rather, after a heat wave, I woke up to this dark band of cloud looming over the horizon. Muffling it. Compressing it.

Appleby is itself a little visited part of Cumbria. Its sandwiched inbetween the North York Moors and Lake District, and very few people stop to take a look at its typical English farmlands, smaller mountains and nearby stone circle.

I've barely manipulated the image - autolevels and a little increase in saturation,
