Photographer's Note
This was taken on the same walk as yesterday’s post. Most of the walk was on an open path, but there was a section through a small wood. I was fascinated by this crooked tree. I took shots of it from 4 angles but I think this one came out the best.
Again shot in RAW and still experimenting with conversion.

Hi Kath.
It's amazing to see how this poor tree managed to capture the light it needed to grow, despite of the presence of taller ones.
I like the bright light you (this time!) 've managed to capture in such a place.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Kath.
Amazing construction with the trees, the shadows and verticals lines.
Is different than your last posts, but good.
I read your note and remember that I would have to began to take photos in RAW.
Regards.

My first look at the picture & I said wow...Just talking of the appearance of the picture, I have some suggestions Kath. Cropping of the ground (in front of the tree including the shadows) & the top left corner. In that way the BG would be an uniform mesh of green, against which the subject tree would, IMO have a dramatic impact. This's my opinion though. Hope you don't mind

Hi Kath,
Really good one! It remember my treks, when I adventure myself in the forest, out of the trails and get lost in the midle of dense vegetation. The expressive sillouette of these trees, not only the one at right, against the bright dense branches in the back, resulted on a very attractive image for me, along with the shadow in foreground. I wouldn't say that this almost rainforest look place is the same of yesterday. Well done!

Hi Kath, good control of the light in difficult conditions here. As an angle I might have been tempted to move closer and shoot upwards to try and emphasise the shot even more.
It looks like your RAW conversion went fine but I imagine the WB was about right being a daylight shot.

Hi Kath,
It's difficult to take pictures in the forest. Usually the light is difficult with deep shadows and bright spots. And the trees tend to look alike. But you've done it well. Light is in control, and the tree looks quite special. All the leaves give the light itself green hue.

What I like about RAW, is the control over the final product. You can create a BW, oversaturated, etc. All this without the fear of destroying the master. Just remember to burn a CD with the masters before start tweaking. Great results for an experimental shot. Well done!

You're certainly getting the hang of it Kath!! Which converter did you use this time? Another beautiful photo, high in quality, well managed exposure. I like the crooked effect of the shadows too. Nice work.
Best wishes

Bonjour Kath,
un arbre fascinant, très tortueux et qui semble souffir du poids des années.
Un enchevetrement touffu de branches et de feuilles, c'est bien chargé et évite une surexposition au niveau du ciel.
Bien vu.
Daniel.

An unusual tree indeed. Almost looks spelled. And the shadows adds up for that.. A green light on this tree at night wood make a scary impression! don't you think?
Really like your POV. And the different aspects of green are again beautiful. I like that you kept the two trees on the left somehow:) Almost like they are guardians of the crooked one:)

Hi Kath,
You've captured the detail well, especially in the tree trunks. Your light management is excellent which can be difficult when you have both light through the leaves and long shadows...Pat

Hello Kath!
Wonderful work here! The exposition is difficult in this situations and you've controlled it very well! I like to see the contrast between wood and leaves everywhere in the picture. Nice!

Hi Kath. What makes this crooked tree look even more crooked is the fact that you have a few straight ones there to compare it with. Nice work!

Hi Kath,
There is a lot going on in this image and therefor very interesting to look at.
For me myself the way we look through the trees to the background and the shade on the foreground is the best part of it. Strong composition lines are doing the rest.
Strong powerful image...well taken..!!!

Hi Kath, Those two trunks do look strange and interesting. You have well made use of the light to this picture. I enjoy the view of the light through the tree braches and leaves in this picture. Good sharpness and nice depth.

Hello Kath
What a curious tree,it must known a few difficult moment in its life in the shadow of its bethren. The diffuse light is good and has a softening effect on the edges.
The shape of the tree is a storey in itself. As suggested,I will not cut the bottom part of the photo as it will remove the lead in and the interrestig shade.

Hi Kath,
This is pretty, very pretty infact. Not only the crooked tree, the forest cover is so beautiful with uniformity in colour n shades that it almost seems unreal.

Not easy to get all the texturing of the green in nature within 200kb, very fine detailled and perfectly framed along this bended tree, pleasant the play of light.
Try once colorbalancing and selective colors in the PP in the aim for making the green fresh looking, you can do it in RAW too , not that easy.
A fine weekend
