I took this image at the same time I took this one. I had gone out to the beach to catch the “blue hour” which seems to last all night around the summer solstice. This was taken about 11pm. The dark area to the right is underneath the pier where I stood for the previous post.

The cliff lift you can see is water powered and built in 1884, one of the oldest powered by water in the world; certainly the oldest in the UK. There is one in Portugal that pre-dates it.

I found the water balanced lift in Portugal here It pre-dates this one by 2 years.
