Photographer's Note

Located on the Randalstown road in Antrim, the Castle Grounds is a popular place for visitors to the town.It has undergone large scale restoration work in recent years. This photograph shows part of that restoration. The arch in the picture is situated in the exact spot where once there was a doorway to Antrim castle. The arch is built to the exact dimensions of what was the main entrance to the castle. The tower in the background is all that remains of the castle that was burnt down in 1922 after a grand ball and the later demolition of the unsafe ruins in 1970.
