Photographer's Note
Late in the afternoon , smoke leaks from the roof of 'Fortunes' smokehouse and drifts across the street. This must have been a familiar sight for generations as the fifth generation, Barry and Derek Brown, are now producing Whitby Kippers at the same premises.
These kippers can be highly recommended , and they can be bought at the tiny shop alongside the smokehouse, and also appear on the menu at some of the restaurants and cafes in the town.
I have intensified the apricot tinge in the sky to reproduce the mellow feel of the light as I remember it.

Hi Maggie,
Creative idea and color make it look like an old photo, impressive view from an old town, smoke add extra effect, good pov and good perspective effect to frame these local houses, good shoot.

Another tasty photo, Maggie. The apricot tinge to the sky enhances the red of the roofs and bricks, and the house with green windows gives the necessary element of contrast. I can almost smell the smoke.
Best wishes,
Winifred

Hello Maggie,
I would imagine that this scene has changed little in many decades.
Your pov, using the cobbled road to guide into the scene, is well chosen.
I love how the buildings emerge from adjacent corners and yet proceed at an angle which creates perfect thirds composition.
Lovely details of the houses, given a strong atmosphere by the billowing smoke. It was a good idea to tint the sky; it certainly intensifies the mood you were trying to create.
I have never seen this on my visits!
Best wishes,
Bev :-)

Geia sou Maggie!
Wow, very atmospheric, very beautiful architecture photo, I don't know why, but somehow, when I hear the word "England", this is the kind of image that comes in mind! Excellent composition and framing, great perspective, very impressive light managment and colours! Congratulations!

Hi Maggie,
Nice atmosphere in this old narrow street added by the special light and sepia tones.

Hi Maggie, friend,
J have seen your Cool and Calm, nice cool and calm picture. I have to return a little to this superb street in great atmosphere. The yellow dominates and gives the warm to this oil.
All compliments dear freind for many of your pictures.

Hello Maggie,
First I misread the title as "old smoke", which seems would have been appropriate too. The tone of this shot (the apricot tinge) has a older feeling to it. It becomes like a picture of times gone by, lost and found. Reading that Barry and Derek Brown are still producing the goods brings a smile here. Next time in Whitby...
