Crail Harbour, Fife, a photo from Fife, Scotland

Photographer's Note

I took this picture yesterday on a drive through one of my favourite areas, the East Neuk of Fife. This is the small harbour in the little fishing village of Crail, a much smaller and quieter place than Pittenweem, its near neighbour.

Crail has an ancient history, settlement certainly having been here for over a thousand years and the village having been made a royal burgh by Robert the Bruce in 1310. You can read more about this little place on the wonderful "Undiscovered Scotland" website here.

Shot late on a sunny afternoon using a polarising filter and converted and edited in PSE6.

Hello John ,
Scottish little fishing harbours seems to very picturesque . This one is lovely too , with the fine houses and the splendid stoned wall . You've well managed the light , with some shady part on the facades . The white boats are at the edge of the overexposure , but this is allways a problem with they .
The weather seems to be fine , in Scotland , in this end of wintertime .

Good Morning John,

Another lovely capture from one of your Scottish fishing villages. That fine, textured wall makes a most interesting separation line between the houses and the water.
You have controlled the light well, on such a bright day, with lots of white in frame. Your choice of aperture seems bang on for sharpness of exposure.
Oh, and its a really attractive scene, too.

Hello John - What an attractive little harbour photographed under lovely light. Sharpness and colour is really very good, I think I may have cropped off a little of the water in the FG, to my eye it would balance the shot a little better. Lovely image though, we're planning a trip to Scotland later this year and this looks a nice place to overnight! TFS and enjoy your weekend. Rosemary

A very beautiful village again! A perfectly cropped picture, according to all the rules of thirds, fourths and even fifths...

The white house to the left gives me a funny feeling that it is just a facade, like my old friend Potemkin had been here too!

There were definitely a lot of places betwee Kirkcaldy and St. James that we missed some years ago.

Hello John,you have certainly captured this beautiful harbour very well indeed,the colours are snappy and the whole image is very sharp.

Hello John,

it seems I have missed one with the nice and friendly looking houses I love. They remind me toys (Do not know why.... perhaps I have watched too many Postman Pat stories with my kids :-) ) Nice composition in which I would not mind cropping a narrow stripe of the bottom part, but it is just a matter of taste.

I like the contrasts here between the texture of the wall and the detail of the ladders and the architecture of the houses with their smoothly rendered facias. Nice light.

That's such a lovely place! I love those façades, the graphical impact of the stone walls and the textures & reflections on the water surface!
That's certainly a very attractive picture!
Sharpness, exposure, chosen pov, colors, horizontal format, composition, contrasts and overall pp are all excellent here!
