Photographer's Note

Blà Bheinn (pronounced Blah-ven) is one of the most spectacular mountains in the Scottish Highlands and Islands. Situated alongside Loch Slapin on the Isle of Skye it is a magical sight as you drive along the road towards Elgol. The road skirts one side of the loch from where this photograph is taken then curves round to run along the far shore beneath the mountain.

The house you see is typical of many houses in the Highlands and Islands - remote and isolated but not a modern house. Many of the houses are a century or more old and whilst, nowadays, are likely to be holiday homes they were built as houses for crofters who worked the land. It was almost certainly a hard life but perhaps the views each morning made it that much more tolerable.
