Photographer's Note
Fishing boat abandoned on the shingle beach at Dungeness, Kent.
Plenty like this left lying about on this stretch of shoreline. It's a bleak, windswept landscape, and one of the largest areas of shingle in Europe. Monochrome was required to do justice to this austere, desolate prospect.
I know the boat is pointing out of the frame, and thus breaking a "rule" beloved of the Royal Photographic Society, but it felt appropriate for a wreck which is in the process of leaving us...

Hi Will, the black and white is perfect for a view like that, like a metaphore of the past of this boat, now broken and abandoned. I like the perspective too to give importance to this cloudy sky, very well done from this Kent beach. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Will,
Sometimes, we have to break the rules, and I couldn't say this rule breaking disturbs me. BW conversion, as you write was the only way. What else could I say? Maybe that it's is a simple, but excellent fine art photo.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hello Will ,
for sure , a good choice of the B&W for this kind of subject . Splendid sky and contrasts .
Aboute the boat pointing out of the frame , at first glance ,, i'm not ttally convinced . But with the curious structure at the back , i admit that that works quite well .

Hi Will, nice compo, great skies and a strange scene, an abandoned boat where no water can be spotted. I might have chosen to leave more space in front than in the back of the boat, but it won't habve changed much, and sometimes is nice to go against the obvious. The second boat a nice feture too. Lovely B+W image. Well done!

Hello Will,
My wife cannot stand Dungeness, but I find it rather attractive if a little forlorn at times. Black and white was absolutely the perfect choice here. Excellent composition; I like very much the inclusion of the clump of flowers in the foreground. The image displays a fine range of tones and has optimal sharpness.

Bonjour Will,
J'aime beaucoup cette composition. Le bateau est bien placé dans le cadre et on se demande bien ce qu'il fait à cet endroit. Le noir et blanc est vraiment approprié.
Amicalement

beautiful black and white man... flowers add life to the scene... and who cares for the Royal Photographic Society, rules are to be broken :)

Hello Will, I agree with you that the b/w is the appropriate medium for this abandoned boat.
A sharp shot, all the textures are wonderful.
Good composition.

Hi Will
thanks for the link to the Beta version, its always great to see that version. This website needs to get its act together!
wonderful atmosphere with the brooding sky and clouds above, they add a mysterious mood. and I also like the contrast between the smooth clouds and textured stones along the bottom. and of course the abandoned boat is the best part.
cheers
